Hello 3D enthusiast,

Greetings, and welcome to the seventh edition of the 3D Nilsletter! I'm thrilled to be back, ready to dive into the most recent developments in the world of 3D over the past week. We'll explore captivating insights and find inspiration for your ongoing projects. I'm confident that you'll find this edition with exciting content.

Simulon, a groundbreaking VFX application in development for over 3.5 years, is set to democratize cinematic-quality effects for creators. In a recent demo by developer Divesh Naidoo, Simulon seamlessly integrated a realistic 3D Mosquito in Amber model into real-life footage, showcasing its potential for high-fidelity assets and intricate lighting interactions. The developers plan to enter a Closed Beta phase soon, providing early access to a select group of creators and studios. As the anticipated 2024 release approaches, users can register for the Simulon beta for iOS here.

Whilst 3D gaussian splatting is still a brand new technique. We see this technique improving in quality every week. And 3D gaussian splatting is being integrated in many 3D platforms like Luma AI and Unreal Engine (and even Fortnite 🤯). But now it’s getting even crazier. With 4D splatting. Where it is not limited to a still 3D scene anymore. Now it can handle the 4th dimension of time. This can make movies so much more immersive. Learn more about 4D Gaussian Splatting here.

Every AR application requires significant optimization to function smoothly on AR devices such as smartphones and AR headsets. However, NVIDIA offers a solution through its Omniverse tool, allowing you to execute an AR application harnessing the GPU capabilities of a dedicated workstation. While it doesn't provide complete mobile freedom, it is undeniably an impressive step forward.

I hope you enjoyed this week's news roundup, and I'm looking forward to sharing more exciting developments in the 3D space in the upcoming editions of this 3D Nilsletter.

That’s all for now!

Regards,
Nils Bakker
